The Life and Times of an Elderly Beagle

Be-bit the BeagleAs you may or may not know, we lost our Beagle, Lilibeth, back in November of last year. She was an important part of our family, and was with us for most of the years that we have been married. During the time Lilsy was with us, we lost Emily (a Beagle/Bassett mix - to bone cancer at 10 years old), Jake (our only boy Beagle - hit by a car while running off with Lilibeth), and Lucy (a Bassett Hound - due to her body’s red blood cells attacking themselves).

Lilibeth outlived them all, and was an amazingly tough Beagle. Due to my wife’s amazing animal communicatons ability, we have been able to be in contact with our deceased pets, making it a little easier to deal with their passings, although we still really miss their physical bodies.

Recently, Lilibeth told my wife that she would be returning to us in July, in another dog body. Little did we know that it would be early in July. My daughter and I were driving down the road and spotted a young female Beagle running in the street. Of course, we had to stop and pick her up. She was very young and we wearing no collar. After taking her home and attempting to find her owner (to no avail), she has become the newest member of our family. Please welcome Be-bit to our family!

UPDATE: Be-bit had an owner and they came and got her today (Sunday the 13th). They had advertised in the newspaper, on Craigslist, at the local Petsmart, and at the dog park. They were really trying to find her, and we had to do the right thing, though we were all very attached to her and loved her.

Yesterday, I had a photo shoot with Emma Lou and Sarah. As always, they put up with me and the camera. Be sure to check out the new photos here. And feel free to leave some comments if you’d like.

I forgot to tell you what is going on and who is in the video. The first dog to appear that is not a Bassett is Foxy. She is a red dog (though red appears as light gray in B/W videos). Next, Sarah the Beagle mix comes into view from the right side of the screen. Last, but not least, I make my entrance from Dad’s left, and head into the kitchen. I think I’m probably headed for the pet door, though I can’t really remember for sure.

My new sister, Emma, thinks it’s always time to play. I like playing as much as the next dog, though I tend to move a LOT slower than most. Here is a short video with my Dad playing with my sister Emma. If you watch closely you will see me make an entrance. Enjoy and have a great Easter. I love Easter, what with all the bunnies and all, Ha, Ha…

I was reading Max’s blog, and it got me thinking about things. We don’t have a cat here, but the damn new Bassett is getting all the attention. Since Lucy passed away last November, things have been pretty calm. She used to terrorize me and the other dogs, and beat up on me every chance she got. I don’t miss that, but I do miss her. Go figure!

Anyway, even though this Bassett is very nice, and she treats me well, I am not used to it and it kinda freaks me out. Why is she being so nice to me? What does she want? What do I have that she might need? The only thing I can figure out is that she is trying to form an alliance with me, so that we can take over the house from Sarah and Foxy. But that doesn’t make any sense. Or does it?…

Hi all!
Please welcome the newest member of our family! We had lost a member back in November, and were very upset. It was un-natural for us to have less than four dogs, after having four for so long. We got a call from the humane society in Sedona yesterday, after having left our number with them about a week or so ago. We told them that we were looking for a Bassett mix, and to call us if one came in.

Well, one did. She was a stray and about one year old. She is now resting (finally), after running around like a nut non-stop since yesterday. We took her to the dog park this morning, and really wore her out. She chased the other dogs around the park, and she is REALLY fast!

I’d like to take some time to introduce my current siblings to you. I talk about them in my posts, but do you see any pictures of them? Not yet. That is only because I can remember what I did 70 years ago, but yesterday is still a mystery.
Foxy red dogAnyway, the red dog is Foxy (seen here helping me open presents), and the black and white with some brown is Sarah. They are cool, but sometimes they both get mad at me and knock me over. I can’t see real well, and sometimes accidentally bump into people, which makes these people mad. So, they knock me over. It’s more like I fall over, since I don’t have much strength in my back legs.
Sarah the Teagle
So, that’s my family, minus the two crazy parakeets and my human sister. Have a good week.
